ParaFrames
Privacy Policy
ParaFrames is an educational tutoring service. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and — just as important — where your data does not go.
Who this covers
ParaFrames serves two groups:
- Consumer users (age 13 and older). You sign up directly.
- Students (under 13) through their school. Under-13 users access ParaFrames only through a school. For those users, the school directs our handling of student data and this policy is subject to our agreement with the school.
We do not knowingly allow under-13 users to sign up directly. Our sign-up asks your age; anyone under 13 is directed to the school path and no account is created. If we learn we have collected data from an under-13 user outside the school path, we delete it (see “Children under 13”).
What we collect
- Account info: your email, and a name if you provide one.
- Age verification: at consumer sign-up we confirm you are 13 or older. We keep the verification result — not your full date of birth.
- Your content: the messages you send the tutor, files you upload to your Knowledge Library, and images of notes you ask us to transcribe.
- Safety signals: the result of automated content-safety screening of messages.
- Technical logs: access and rate-limiting logs needed to run the service.
How we use it
- To provide the tutoring, generation, transcription, and Knowledge-Library features you request.
- To keep the service safe, through automated content moderation — especially for minors.
- To operate, secure, and debug the service.
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not use your content to train our models — model improvement uses separately-sourced, license-clean datasets, never your content.
Where your data goes (and where it doesn’t)
ParaFrames runs on our own infrastructure. Your content is processed on our on-premise servers.
- Students (education path): student content is processed entirely on our own servers and is never sent to any third-party AI provider or external web service.
- Consumer users (13+): if you choose a feature powered by an external model (Google Gemini or Anthropic Claude, provided through Google Cloud Vertex AI) or a live web-lookup feature, the content needed to fulfill that request is sent to that provider. These features are opt-in and are not available on the student/education path.
Where external processing applies, our sub-processors are Google LLC (Vertex AI) and Anthropic PBC.
Data retention & your choices
- We retain your account and content data for the life of your account.
- You can delete items from your Knowledge Library at any time, and request deletion of your account and its associated data at privacy@paraframes.org.
- Safety and access logs are kept only as long as needed to operate and secure the service, then removed.
Your rights
Depending on your location and role, you — or, for a student, the school and parents — may have rights to access, correct, or delete data. To make a request, email privacy@paraframes.org. For students, direct requests through your school, which controls the education record under FERPA.
Children under 13
ParaFrames is not offered directly to children under 13. Under-13 use is available only through a participating school under a written agreement in which the school acts as a “school official” and provides the required consent on parents’ behalf. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 outside that school relationship; if we learn we have, we delete it promptly. Parents at a participating school should contact their school, or us at privacy@paraframes.org.
Teen users (13–17)
For users aged 13 to 17 we keep privacy-protective defaults — no data sale, no behavioral advertising, and minimal collection — consistent with emerging youth-privacy laws.
Security
Our services run on a private network that is not publicly exposed, with per-user authentication and automated safety screening. We protect data in transit and restrict access to it. No system is perfectly secure; we work to protect your data and will notify you, as required by law, if a breach occurs.
Changes & contact
We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the effective date above. Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to privacy@paraframes.org.
